Dear customer,
you now have the new Bresser microscope
catalogue in your hands. It contains many
completely new microscopes. In order
to make the right choice in choosing the
correct microscope, please take a few
minutes to read through our introductory
text with explanations about the different
types of microscope.
Advanced amateurs and professionals can
refer directly to the technical data of the
new Bresser Science line; these products
are introduced commencing from page
24.
Generally, there are two main types of
microscopes: Incident light and transmission
type.
An incident light microscope is suitable
for opaque samples like coins, stamps,
minerals or insects. Here, the sample is
illuminated from above and the refl ected
light is magnifi ed by the objective.
Stereo microscopes like the Biolux ICD or
Researcher ICD give a three-dimensional
view due to their twin objectives.
With transmission-type microscopes, the
sample is penetrated by the light. In order
to make that possible, the sample must
be transparent, be prepared and put on a
blank slide. Because such objects are mostly
from within the realm of biology, these
microscopes are also called “biological
microscopes”. Such thin sample slices
give a fascinating view inside organs, cell
cultures or even minerals.
Additionally, there are microscopes that are
equipped with both kinds of illumination.
Two examples are the Duolux and the
Researcher ICD.
The Bresser microscope portfolio is divided
in three lines: Models for beginners
(starting at page 10), for school and
hobbyists (from page 15 on) and advanced
systems for science and research (from
page 24 on).
The beginner models are very suitable
for children and occasional observers.
They provide an interesting entry into the
“small” world.

The “school & hobby” line offers solid
optical and mechanical quality at a
reasonable price. The main emphasis is lies
on practical use “always and everywhere”.
Many of these microscopes are equipped
with internal rechargeable batteries for
outdoor-use. This product line is ideal for
schools and hobbyists. It is versatile and
expandable with many useful accessories.
These microscopes can therefore grow
with the demands of the user.
The new “Science” line builds the base
for demanding amateurs and professional
observers like universities, scientifi c research
and environment institutions. Precise high-
class optics and mechanical components
meet the high demands of daily laboratory
use. Special illumination systems make
specialist applications like uorescence or
polarisation microscopy possible or even
inverse observation of sediments etc. A
special accessory programme rounds out
this product segment (see Microscope
Matrix on pages 8-9).
